Lora Gianino, MA LLPC
Hello
My name is Lora and I am excited to welcome you as you embark on this new journey. Growing up, I sometimes felt like I was missing a non-judgmental listening ear in my life and this is what inspired me to become a Counselor. I wanted to be able to offer that to others and I hope to be able to provide that to you. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the key to your success in counseling. Together we will build rapport and trust, while enhancing your strengths and confronting your weaknesses through unconditional positive regard. I aim to help you untangle unpleasant thoughts, emotions and behaviors. I will guide you through the difficult stages of change, stress, anxiety and depression by providing psycho-education, clinical interventions, empathy and compassion.
Education and Career
I graduated from Oakland University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Counseling focusing on career counseling and academic advising. In addition, I volunteered for two years as a crisis intervention counselor for the Macomb County Crisis Center where I provided referrals to community resources, listened to concerns, and helped those whom may have been suicidal or in crisis.
Specialization and Approach
I specialize in working with individuals eight and up struggling with school, career, anxiety, depression, life transitions, adjustment, co-dependency, stress, anger, suicidal ideation and romantic, peer, relationship and self esteem issues. My clinical interventions may include, but are not limited to strength based, creative arts, narrative, integrative, humanistic and cognitive behavioral therapy; life, career coaching, person-centered counseling, motivational interviewing, crisis interventions, and suicide prevention.
I tailor our sessions to establish goals and develop approaches tailored to each individual. I will work at your pace to address emotional and behavioral issues, improve and develop skills in mindfulness, coping, communication and problem solving, promote changes in behavior and strive for improved mental well-being while improving your overall self esteem and self worth. I believe in providing the best quality of care for all of my clients' mental wellness and will coordinate care with parents, partners, teachers, and primary care physicians when beneficial in helping you meet your therapeutic goals.
Every person has a story and I am here to help guide you through the next chapter or yours. I am very eager and excited to get to know and support you during this journey.
