Melissa Grigoriou, LPC
Hello
My name is Melissa and I am a Professional Mental Health Counselor in Michigan. I am a helper who's driven by a personal journey filled with challenges and triumphs. My own childhood experiences weren't always ideal, but they ignited a deep sense of empathy and a keen awareness of others' emotions within me. I've always found joy in helping people, in motivating them to believe in themselves, and in assisting them in overcoming life's obstacles. As I grew older, I recognized these qualities as strengths and developed a strong desire to help others discover their own strengths.
Education and Career
I pursued my passion to help others by earning a Master's in Counseling from Oakland University. My professional journey began in the realm of anger management and expanded to encompass a diverse range of counseling areas, including mental health, addiction, legal matters, and career guidance. For the past seven years, I've been working at Oakland County Jail, where I've provided assistance to individuals diagnosed with a wide array of mental health and addiction issues. Additionally, I ran a program for those struggling with alcohol dependency.
Outside of my professional roles, I've volunteered with organizations like Lighthouse, delivering food to individuals facing economic hardships. I'm committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and I've actively sought training in trauma care and professional development. My thirst for knowledge extends to DBT treatment, and I aspire to become more deeply involved in community events and advocacy efforts aimed at improving mental health and addressing addiction issues within society and government systems.
Specialization and Approach
In my counseling practice, I adopt a laid-back, collaborative approach. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is paramount, where there's no judgment, only unwavering support for you to be your most authentic self. We're a team, working together to bring out your best self, and when appropriate, we'll share moments of levity. I've found that the right questions can guide us toward self-discovery and growth.
While my primary focus has been on adults, I'm open to working with teenagers and individuals of all ages and backgrounds. I've had success assisting those dealing with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, childhood trauma, attachment issues, codependency, and low self-worth.
If, for any reason, you feel that our therapeutic connection isn't the right fit, I value open communication and will discuss alternative options that may better suit your needs. I understand the potential benefits of medication in certain situations, but I also recognize the importance of careful evaluation and considerate referrals when appropriate.
To all my future clients, I want you to understand that I am just like you with my own fears and insecurities. However, I am also someone who believes in your potential, offering unwavering support and encouragement as you embark on your journey towards authenticity and personal growth. With me, you can find a safe space to relax, breathe, and work together to discover solutions and healing in your life, all while embracing moments of joy along the way.
