Dennielle McIver, MS LPC-S NCC

Hello

I’m Dennielle and I am so excited to have the opportunity to meet you. Whether you are a newcomer, a returning client, or simply exploring counseling options for the first time, I commend you for your courage.

Finding the right counselor and discovering what works for you can feel daunting, overwhelming, and even disheartening at times. However, finding the perfect therapeutic fit can truly transform your life. It is my sincere hope that you will discover your ideal match here at Pediatric and Adult Behavioral Counseling (PABCounseling).

Specialities and Clinical Expertise

I believe that healing is not one-size-fits-all. At PABCounseling, we transcend traditional talk therapy by offering somatic, creative, and non-verbal modalities. I specialize in the following areas:

1. Child and Adolescent Therapy (Ages 8–17)

I support children and teens navigating emotional, behavioral, and relational challenges. I love helping parents who are struggling with school issues, behavioral problems, co-parenting, or adapting to divorce and blended families. Areas of focus include:

  • Anxiety, Panic, and Depression

  • ADHD

  • Female Autism

  • Emotional Intelligence

  • Teen issues, relationships, PMDD, interpersonal and self regulation skills
  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Low Self-Esteem, Bullying, and Social Pressures

  • Crisis Intervention (including suicidal and homicidal ideation)

2. Adult Trauma & Abuse Recovery

I provide individual counseling for adults healing from developmental neglect, trauma, PTSD and interpersonal abuse with a deep specialization in narcissistic abuse recovery and overcoming codependency.

3. Psychedelic Integration Therapy

If you feel like you have tried everything and "nothing works," please don't lose heart. Traditional therapy doesn't fit everyone. I specialize in psychedelic integration therapy, providing the clinical psychoeducation and grounding resources you need to break through treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, severe anxiety, and chronic mental health barriers.

Therapeutic Approach and Interventions

No matter what age you are or what you are struggling with, we will work together to identify your strengths while exploring your own motivation and plan for change. You won’t have to worry about what to talk about because I genuinely want to get to know you and will do so by asking a lot of questions. As we build our rapport, I will start to implement a variety of interventions, but not without your permission. Sometimes we just need to be heard.

I utilize a highly flexible, evidence-based, and eclectic framework, drawing from:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) & Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

  • Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)

  • Emotion Freedom Technique (EFT)

  • Crisis Interventions for Suicidal and Homicidal Ideation
  • Trauma-Informed Interventions

  • Solution-Focused Therapy

  • Music and Sound Therapy

  • Psychedelic Integration and Assisted Therapy

Professional Certifications:

  • NCC: National Certified Counselor

  • ACS: Approved Clinical Supervisor

  • CCTP: Certified Clinical Trauma Professional

  • Psychedelic Integrative and Assisted Medicine Certification: multiple certifications for ketamine and psilocybin

Education and Career

My path to becoming a counselor was unconventional but purposeful. I initially earned degrees in Web Design and Computer Science minoring in IT Security. I landed an amazing entry level position as a programmer and security manager. However, a desire for deeper human connection led me to volunteer at the Macomb County Crisis Center. This rewarding experience inspired a major career pivot; following a corporate layoff, I took a leap of faith and earned my Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University  (ranked #2 for most prestigious CACREP Accredited online graduate school for mental health services) in 2012.

During my seven-year tenure at New Oakland Family Center, I completed my practicum and internships within the FACE to FACE partial hospitalization program and efficiently accrued 3,000 clinical hours in just three years in the outpatient department. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers, I dedicated my time to delivering specialized services for clients managing moderately severe dual diagnoses.

While continuing my journey at New Oakland, I founded Pediatric and Adult Behavioral Counseling in 2012, scaling it from a solo practice into a thriving group practice in 2018 with the mission: "Create Limitless Opportunities To Overcome the Impossible." My goal? Educate, inspire, and empower individuals, couples, and families to overcome the impossible.

Believing that healing is not one-size-fits-all, I designed this practice to transcend traditional talk therapy. Instead, we offer a diverse collective of specialized clinical interventions, creating a safe space for clients to process and heal through somatic, creative, and non-verbal modalities.

Advocacy & Leadership Highlights

  • Legislative Advocacy (2019): Contributed to the successful passage of Michigan House Bill 4325, a historic, rapidly enacted piece of legislation signed by Governor Whitmer that permanently protected LPC scope of practice regarding diagnosis and clinical intervention.

  • Digital Outreach & Education (2020-2021): Leveraged emerging media during the COVID-19 pandemic encouraged by my youth clients to champion mental health awareness. Built a digital community on TikTok from the ground up, scaling to over 75k followers and 1.1M likes within 12 months by delivering high-quality psychoeducation and resources.

  • Current Focus: Exploring the utilization of social media to promote music and sound therapy while focusing on internal practice evolution. I prioritize business development, clinical education, supervision and organizational leadership to support the growth of my team and practice.

A Note for You

Something valuable that I have learned through my experiences of trying to find the right helper is that not everyone is a good match. Just because you meet with one Counselor, doesn’t mean this is the person you HAVE TO HAVE. If something is off, please know that you are allowed to keep interviewing clinicians until you find someone you are comfortable with. If we are not a good fit, it is important to be honest asap because the goal is to help YOU. Together, we will find someone that is qualified to meet your needs.

They say that change is inevitable, but no one prepared us for what the world has thrown us in the past few years AND that doesn't include what occurs in our personal lives. Whether you need a safe place to talk, cry, vent yell, learn, or grow; I will support you.

Thank you and I look forward to meeting you.
